Somewhere, as a student, I got the notion that I might become a film director. I co-wrote and co-directed this short film with Daniel Marc Janes. Incredibly, it was funded and produced by Film London, premiering at the British Film Institute in 2013 and winning a £2000 Arts Award from the Kevin Spacey Foundation.
The film, of course, was rubbish; I only record here the festival laurels it garnered for archival purposes and nostalgia for a few happy memories they provided, such as crawling around the bars of Rouen with fellow festival nominee Robbie Ryan, one of the world's greatest living cinematographers, not that I knew it at the time. Puja Nights was the first and last screenplay I wrote, but it did launch my good friend Daniel's career as a screenwriter and for that reason alone, it may be considered a success.
